This chicken is a silkie cross out of who knows what. She used to be in a pen along with the cornish, and looked very different from them. I used to call her the ugly chicken just because she looked different than the rest. Rob has always maintained that she is actually very pretty. We have settled on calling her Pretty-Ugly. For about 3 days she was found sitting on one egg in the middle of the barn stall that is currently holding the rams. We moved her up to this feed shelf, and gave her about 12 eggs. I highly doubt any of her hatch will actually be hers (genetically speaking), but it sure beats the incubator. Hatch should be around june 4th

more chickens.
Cornish bantams, These muscular birds are awesome. They are banties, but weigh as much as a big stock. We have 4 hens and a rooster!
Here's Sharla's brother, he was born under the tack room back in September. He is a blue laced red wyandotte, game hen cross. I think he's gorgeous.
reloaded the incubator, Hope this hatch rate is better than the last.

chickens and eggs
Well chicken still has two living babies, It's nice to see her protecting them from the turkeys that like to pick on anything little. Here she is with one of her biddies, settling into the woodpile for the night.
Cathouse chicken (Maj) was on the these eggs again last night until this morning. I really hope she goes broody.
Also, the nest boxes that we built last weekend were a huge hit. So far the girls have tried them all out. One egg in each box. I'm so relieved that the hens even want to still lay in the chicken house, after being free range for so long.
